EDITORIAL / PACKAGING INSIGHTS

The best finish supports the brand rather than competing with it.

Foil stamping

Foil can introduce a bright metallic accent, often used on a logo or a short line of text. It is most effective when the artwork leaves enough quiet space for the detail to stand out.

Embossing and debossing

These processes raise or recess selected areas of a surface, creating tactile detail without depending on printed colour. Their suitability depends on substrate and the fineness of the artwork.

Matte, gloss and soft-touch

Matte coatings reduce glare; gloss highlights brightness; soft-touch finishes create a smooth, velvety feel. Practicality, scuff resistance and end-of-life considerations should inform the choice.

Think about the whole pack

A dramatic finish can be wasted if the opening is awkward or the insert does not fit. Evaluate surface treatment, structure and handling as one complete experience.

A note on specifications

Packaging needs differ by product and industry. Technical, legal and environmental claims should be confirmed against your own materials, intended market and supplier documentation.
